Supposedly the P45 chipset is optimized for the 45nm CPU's such as the E8400. Not sure if that's the case but that is what they are advertising. Also with the P45 your PCI-E slots will be 2.0, don't think they are with the P35's.

If it was me I would go with the ASUS P5Q-Pro & E8400 combo...$20 discount @ New

Arba : The P45 is probably your best bet, it will be the last socket 775 based chipset so the motherboard manufactures will support it the longest. "1st gen" really has nothing to do with it and yes if there are any problems (i haven't heard of any) then they will be fixed.

Arba dar: P5Q also offers more headroom for overclocking which should benefit e8400 quite a bit.
