television : My television powers on by itself showing a light grey screen 
then later powers off, what do I do?

If your TV is turning on of its own accord and displaying a light grey 
screen then powering off, this will indicate that the 'Standby Mode Upgrade' 
option within the TV menu is currently set to ON and needs to be turned to 
OFF. The behaviour of Standby Mode Upgrade set to ON does not damage or 
cause harm to the TV and is the TV auto-powering on to scan the airwaves for 
firmware updates before powering off after scan is complete. In Australia no 
firmware updates are broadcast, rather they are available on the Samsung 
site for download.

Please select the correct method for your model of TV to toggle standby mode 
upgrade to OFF.

For Series B TV and newer

1. Power the TV on and press menu on the remote to display the TV menu.
2. Press up or down arrow on the remote to select SUPPORT icon, then press 
Enter/OK button to select.
3. Press up or down arrow on the remote to select SOFTWARE UPGRADE, then 
press Enter/OK button to select.
4. Press up or down arrow button to select STANDYBY MODE UPGRADE, then press 
Enter/OK.
5. Press up or down arrow button to select OFF, then press right arrow 
button to select.
6. Press EXIT button to exit.

In all cases,  with Standby Mode Upgrade option now toggled to OFF the TV 
will no longer auto-power on.
