Power efficiency is what matters most.

However there is one catch:
suppose your PC's power demand is 550W.

A 550W PSU may provide all you computer demands, but it will get really hot, 
since you're demanding everything it can give. When PSUs get hot, their 
efficency get lower, thus it may or may not be able to provide the full 
550W.

A 750W PSU will be able to provide the same 550W while staying cooler, thus 
keep it's efficient at its optimum.

In the scenario above, if both PSUs have an efficiency ratio of 80%, the 
750W PSU will consume less power, because it will run cooler to provide the 
same 550W demanded by the computer.
