Dual Battery Concept

Explain
The increasing number of electronic systems and equipment in cars, such as 
electric windows, heated seats and safety features, need more electric 
power. For this reason some cars in the Volkswagen range are supplied with a 
dual battery concept, comprising a starter battery and an onboard power 
supply battery. Under normal operating conditions, the starter battery 
supplies the starter motor with power and the onboard power supply battery 
is responsible for the electrical consumers. A separate onboard power supply 
control unit constantly monitors the charge status of the batteries and 
regulates the levels between them if one battery does not have sufficient 
power available.
